ELECTIONS 2015: Disqualify candidates with questionable certificates – NGO tells INEC

A non-governmental organisation, the Movement for Institutional Integrity, on Saturday called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to disqualify candidates with questionable academic certificates. The position of the group was contained in a statement by its National Coordinator, Malam Usman Rabiu, in Abuja. According to the group, some cases of certificate forgery had been reported, and yet nothing had been done by concerned authorities. It, therefore, urged INEC to check every fraudulent activity in the electoral process and disqualify any candidate who presented any fake certificate to the commission. “INEC and all political parties should urgently disqualify candidates with forged or questionable credentials in order to uphold the sanctity of our electoral process. “It is only when such punitive measures are served that the standard and quality of our governance can grow. “We will continue to call on relevant authorities to ensure that our electoral process is cleansed,’’ the statement said.
