Chelsea plot £30m move for Swansea striker Wilfried Bony

Chelsea are lining up a £30m move for Swansea star Wilfried Bony – on the recommendation of Didier Drogba, UK’s Star reports. The Premier League leaders have identified Bony as the perfect man to boost the club’s attacking options and are ready to take on Manchester City and Liverpool to get their man. But while City and Liverpool may make a move in the January transfer window, Jose Mourinho is prepared to wait until the summer content he has enough strength in depth for the remainder of the season. And the Blues believe a cash plus Loic Remy offer will be enough to persuade Swansea they are the club to do business with when they do decide to sell. The Swans are determined not to let Bony – who scored 20 goals in 2014, more than any other Premier League player – leave the Liberty Stadium this month. That kind of timeframe would perfectly suit Chelsea, with Mourinho being given a ringing endorsement of the Ivorian from his former international teammate Drogba. The Chelsea legend has made it clear to Mourinho and club scout Mick Doherty Bony’s combination of pace, power and explosive finishing is exactly what Chelsea need. Doherty was in the stands at Anfield last week when Swansea lost 4-1 to Liverpool, while scouts from Chelsea, City and the Reds also saw him score a late equaliser at QPR on New Year’s Day. Drogba is on a season-long deal at Stamford Bridge while Remy has struggled to make any impression since his late summer move from QPR. Mourinho knows he needs other alternatives to Diego Costa as a main attacking striker, and with Bony similar in style and physical presence to Drogba, the Chelsea boss has become a huge fan. But he would rather wait until the summer to make major changes to his playing squad, in the opinion January arrivals sometimes fail to shine.
